Dear Reader,
The years 1937 through 1939 in the midwest – in Iowa – bring thoughts of dust bowls, depression, barefeet and austerity, at least they did to me. It most certainly does not harken to romance-filled nights of dances, train trips, new cars and week-night dating.
But, this story is not like the stereotypes of the depression. It’s the story of full-circle love, told in a cache of found letters. Found in 1976 in rural Iowa. Hidden for close to 40 years. Brought to life briefly in the early 90s for college research papers and now dusted off in a determined effort to tell the story of “Ding” O’Connor and Dorothy DeBaggio, two lovers and their two-year relationship set against the background of rural Iowa.
Originally, romantacized through the eyes of a ripe-for-romance adolescent, then picked apart by a college research student and now taking the shape of a blog by a middle-aged woman in search of writing the story not knowing exactly the dreams that will unfold.
